Project Description

The main aim of the project was to identify major sociocultural challenges and adaptations that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused in the Galapagos Islands, particularly focusing on residents, tour guides, and hotels. Besides this, the study also had the goal to understand how tourism authorities plan to sustain the activities during the post-Covid period. The main questions of the project were: What sociocultural challenges and discrepancies the Covid-19 pandemic revealed concerning the sustainability of tourism in the Galapagos Islands? What sociocultural modifications tourism stakeholders need to adapt as far as the post Covid-19 tourism dynamics are concerned in the Galapagos Islands? and What strategy do local and national tourism authorities consider sustaining tourism in the Galapagos Islands?
