The annual Hospitality Finance & Economics Conference (HFE) serves as a dynamic platform for academics and industry experts to share knowledge and insights. With its intimate setting, the conference fosters in-depth presentations and robust discussions on each paper. While the primary focus remains on real estate topics, we encourage participation from experts in finance, economics, and hospitality to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and stimulate global dialogue.

Topics for paper submission

We invite submissions of rigorous empirical, experimental, and theoretical papers across finance, economics, accounting, real estate, and urban studies. Because of the history of the HFE Conference, research engaging with real estate and urban dynamics is especially welcome. At the same time, we remain fully open to high-quality work from any of these disciplines, with or without a hospitality focus. To encourage interdisciplinary dialogue, we particularly welcome studies that integrate concepts or methods across fields. Submissions must represent original research that has not been previously published or accepted for publication. We also strongly encourage Ph.D. students in the advanced stages of their studies to participate. Although extended abstracts are accepted initially, full papers will be required two weeks before the conference.

The conference seeks to highlight, though not exclusively, a broad range of topics, including:

Demographic shifts and their economic implications
Property market cycles and bubble dynamics
Impacts of the high-inflation and high-interest-rate environment
Challenges and opportunities in the transition to net-zero
Housing affordability and access
ESG considerations in investment, financing, development, and operations
Technological and financial innovations
AI, data analytics, and predictive modeling

We invite you to submit papers to be considered for presentation at its 9th Hospitality Finance & Economics Conference.

Please note that:

All areas related to finance and real estate are welcome.

Papers with a hospitality-focus are encouraged but not mandatory.
Empirical / experimental papers – and well-developed case studies are welcome
We ask you not to submit a paper that has been accepted for publication in a journal.
We particularly encourage submissions by PhD students in advanced stages of their studies.
Presenters of accepted papers should agree to act as discussants and ample time will be provided for paper sessions.

The annual Hospitality Finance & Economics Conference (HFE) is a forum and platform for experts and academics in the hospitality finance, economics and real estate fields to share their knowledge and insights to investors, policy makers and consumers in hospitality and beyond. As finance, real estate and economics experts need to work in unison, the creation and sharing of insights is paramount in creating a wholesome environment for investors, managers, policy makers and consumers, in hospitality and beyond.
